Mission Viejo-based herbal medicine firm Wakunaga of America is expanding into the Inland Empire; it broke ground on its new building a new facility in Mira Loma, an unincorporated area of Riverside County near Ontario, just south of the San Bernardino County line.

Cypress-based Taisei Construction Corp. will be building the 53,000-square-foot manufacturing and distribution center, which is expected to produce 150-200 construction jobs. It will be located next to the company’s existing 23,000-square-foot manufacturing and distribution center.

Once the center is open, it is expected to employ 30 to 70 people full time. Currently, Riverside County’s unemployment rate is at 15.1 percent. More than two points above the statewide average and five points above national unemployment figures. The new employees will be hired from the Inland Empire.
