Setting a new Barre

By Ashley AffeldtPublished: April 01, 2010

Who doesn’t want a leaner, tighter, firmer body? And if you’re like most people, you want to see results fast. After a few workouts at Pure Barre, you’ll get just that.

The Pure Barre Technique is a total-body workout that burns fat and produces lifted seats, toned arms, thin thighs and flat abs by fusing elements of ballet, Pilates and weight training in an intense 55-minute session.

It’s the brainchild of dancer, choreographer and fitness guru Carrie Rezabek, who opened her first studio in 2001 in the basement of an office building. The business began expanding in 2006, and now Pure Barre studios can be found nationwide.

Pure Barre Newport Beach owner Monica Pommier decided to open her studio in Costa Mesa because of her deep passion for fitness and health.

“This technique is so unique and has that instant gratification that women crave,” says Pommier. “You know when you have gone to Pure Barre, because your jeans fit differently and you feel more confident with yourself. I have played water polo through college and have never seen my body as lean and feminine as it is from Pure Barre.”

You don’t have to have experience in any of the elements that make up Pure Barre. Instructors walk around the room during each class to assist you in achieving the right positions and maximum results.

The studio also offers a Mommy Bounce Back package for women who have just had babies. Pommier says they can get back their pre-baby bodies within three months.

“This workout,” says Pommier,” targets all the areas that women struggle with: thighs, hips, abs and seat.”
