![]() Zumba’s claim to fame is that instead of being a typical workout, it’s more like a party that everyone wants to attend. I don’t think I’ve ever had more fun while doing an hour of straight cardio. The class combines Latin rhythms with easy-to-follow moves. Even better, you can burn up to 1,000 calories in a single one-hour workout. You’ll feel it in your upper and lower body, and in your abs. Do it for 10 days, and the Zumba folks say you’ll drop one whole size. Now, I know what you’re thinking: “I am not coordinated enough to salsa and belly dance while exercising.” I thought the same thing. But Zumba instructor Anna Tolentino proved me wrong. “I have had people with two left feet come in,” says Tolentino. “You just make it your own, and do your dance how you want to do it.” So I tested out my two left feet. Even before the class started, it was the hot topic of conversation in the women’s locker room, where first-timers voiced their nerves and regulars put on their belly-dancing garb. The class was so crowded that it was hard to move around – an indication of its popularity. And I knew within the first few seconds that the party had begun. The moves are all generally easy to understand and fun to do. If you decide to join the party, expect to sweat – but also expect a fun and exciting workout that leaves you wanting more.
