Best O.C. workouts

By OC METRO staffPublished: December 01, 2009

In 2009, OC METRO covered some of the hottest Orange County workouts. Here are a few of the best.

Fitness dancing
Have you ever seen a serious dancer who’s out of shape? Moving the legs, hips and arms to the beat of salsa or samba music sounds a heck of a lot better than running on a treadmill.

That’s the message that Century Ballroom owner Eddie Alba wants to get across. Alba launched a series of classes aimed at introducing people to dance as exercise.

“There are short-term and long-term benefits, and it’s much more fun than going to the gym,” says Alba. “A two-hour session is the same as running 4 miles.”

Boot it
Transform Fitness Camp is a four-week outdoor program for women of all ages and fitness levels. Created by Rachael Cadden, certified wellness and life strategies coach, the program was designed to have all the intensity of traditional boot camp, but tailored specifically for women.

The workout uses 5- to 10-pound weights to boost the metabolism and keep the fat burning hours after the workout is done. While no two classes are the same, each workout includes a warm-up, core work, stretching and cool-down.
