![]() Adult clientele will have the option of Friday night salsa lessons at 7 p.m., in addition to current Tuesday night salsa and Saturday class offerings. Latin dance classes include the cha- cha, rumba, samba, paso doble and jive, while ballroom dance lessons include the slow waltz, fox trot, quickstep, tango and Viennese waltz. The goal: “For people to get away from their work and do something healthy,” says Oksana Kalinuka, the studio’s founder. Serving more than 60 children as young as 4 years old, the studio offers an alternative to the ballet studios found countywide, says Kalinuka. A Latvian professional dancer who arrived in the U.S. 10 years ago, Kalinuka furthered her prominence in 2009 as Chapman University President Jim Doti’s dance partner in Dancing for Tomorrow’s Stars, a major annual fundraiser for Assistance League of Newport-Mesa programs. The cost for adults who pre-pay for the month is $50 per person, or $12.50 per class. Individual classes cost $15. The studio’s clean, sophisticated space – complete with paintings, a rest area, tea, coffee and the option to bring wine – keeps it classy, says Kalinuka. “It’s something people can do together with their husband, fiancé, boyfriend, or girlfriend,” she says. “I am looking for them to have fun, enjoy their time together, be able to go to social events and be able to dance – to have confidence on the dance floor and confidence in life.” What: OC Dancing Where: 2014 Quail St., Newport Beach Phone: 949.861.8444 or 949.246.2481 Web: ocdancing.com |
