Western Digital introduces fast new high-capacity hard drives

The VelociRaptor can hold up to 1 terabyte

Western Digital has released its newest line of external hard drives, dubbed the VelociRaptor for their 10,000-RPM speed.

The VelociRaptor drive holds between 250 gigabytes and 1 terabyte of storage and is equipped with an advanced cooling system to prevent overheating. Designed for creative professionals who need a high storage capacity and speed, the drives can withstand high-workload environments and hold large applications such as video editing and digital content creation files.

The drive’s NoTouch ramp load technology keeps the recording head from touching the disk media and prevents unnecessary wear.

"WD is committed to providing customers with the best performing and most reliable SATA hard drives and our WD VelociRaptor family of drives underscores that promise," said Darwin Kauffman, vice president and general manager of WD's enterprise storage. "With ever-increasing demand for greater capacity, the new 1 TB WD VelociRaptor drive delivers the ultimate combination of speed and storage for the power user."
