Orange County’s most recent unemployment statistics show a broad swing among communities, with some as low as 2.7 percent and others as high as 13.9.

According to the Employment Development Department (EDD), May unemployment statistics, Orange County’s overall jobless rate was a record 8.6 percent.

The statistics vary widely from city to city, however, resulting in an 11.2 percent gap. The cities with the lowest percentages of unemployment are: Foothill Ranch (2.7), Coto de Caza (3.5), Las Flores (4.1), Villa Park (4.3) and Los Alamitos (4.4).

It is worth noting that these are small communities, each with a labor force total of less than 10,000. Foothill Ranch, for instance, has a prospective workforce of only 6,800 people, with 200 out of work, resulting in the 2.7 percent figure.
