Yogurtland, the Irvine-based frozen yogurt chain, is hosting a nationwide contest during the month of October that gives its patrons the opportunity to win a $500 gift card. The “My Masterpiece” contest invites Yogurtland fans to use its wide variety of flavors and toppings to concoct unique confections and upload pictures of their creations to the company’s Facebook page. The submissions will be voted on by users of the social media website, after which a panel of judges will declare a winner and two finalists.

In order to be considered for the prize, participants must upload their photo by Sunday, Oct. 28. Online voting will take place between Monday, Oct. 29 and Friday, Nov. 2; a panel of Yogurtland judges will then evaluate the top 100 entries. The desserts will be judged on a rubric that includes taste, creativity and the ease with which a recipe can be recreated. The first-place winner will receive a $500 Yogurtland gift card valid for one year. Second-place and third-place winners will receive $250 and $125 gift cards, respectively.

Apart from the larger contest, each Yogurtland shop is encouraged to choose a local winner who will receive a $100 gift card. Winners will be announced Nov. 7.

“Our fans are inspired by our variety of flavors and toppings and see our cups as blank canvases to create their ideal treat,” said Yogurtland’s director of marketing, Charlotte Lucich. “Our My Masterpiece contest is a chance for our guests to be rewarded for their creativity and great taste. We can’t wait to see the entries.”

Yogurtland launched its self-serve, pay-by-the-ounce business model when it opened its Irvine location in 2007. Currently, Yogurtland operates nearly 200 franchise locations across 16 states and plans to open 50 new locations in the next six months. Orange County is home to 20 of the chain’s locations.
