![]() “The new facility offers us more space to increase our processing power to match our increasing market penetration,” said Agendia CEO Dr. Bernhard Sixt. He called Irvine the ideal location for the cancer diagnostics company, which is best known for its MammaPrint test that predicts the risk of breast cancer recurrence in patients. “(Irvine) is known for its high density of advanced med-tech and health-care companies,” he said. “This has a tremendous benefit in that it allows us to draw from a large pool of highly trained and experienced people that we will need to attract in the future to keep pace with our increasing customer base.” Agendia plans to double or triple the number of staffers working at its new facility over the next 12 to 18 months, as the company continues to add lab and administrative personnel to support its growth efforts. The facility currently employs 25 people on site and another 20 remotely. Additionally, Agendia, which has global headquarters in Amsterdam and was established in 2003, hopes to soon be at the head of the pack in the cancer diagnostics industry, thanks to the firm's decision to seek FDA clearance of its diagnostic tests. Over a span of three years, Agendia secured four separate approvals. “Our FDA clearances make us a unique player in the space where we are competing,” Sixt said. “(For example) to date, MammaPrint is the only FDA-cleared breast cancer recurrence test. FDA clearance gives assurance to patients and physicians that the test has been validated by the agency and that it is safe and effective.” Sixt said Agendia’s next important product launch will be ColoPrint, a test that assesses the risk of recurrence for colon cancer patients. Agendia plans to submit ColoPrint for FDA clearance at the end of this year. “Our next step is really to continue to build on our success,” Sixt said. “We will continue to leverage the power of our platform, which is based on strong scientific and clinical data. This is increasingly recognized by patients and physicians, and allows us to grow at double-digit rates every month.” Agendia will hold a ceremony starting at 9 a.m. Thursday to celebrate the new facility. Up to 75 local officials and business professionals are expected to descend upon the event.
