Background screening common among businesses, says Irvine's HireRight
Firm's survey shows that 92 percent of respondents perform such tests.

Background screening is a common practice among businesses both large and small, according to a recent survey from Irvine-based HireRight, which specializes in pre-employment testing services.
Ninety-two percent of respondents polled in the Background Screening Benchmarking Report perform background testing, while nearly 80 percent check for hires, transfers and promotions. Of course, the main reasons for this cautionary practice are to reduce risk to the business and create a safe work environment.
The study is based on a survey of more than 1,400 human resources, recruiting and talent management professionals from organizations with fewer than 59 staffers to more than 25,000 in a wide number of industries. Among the other highlights found among these individuals:
Forty-five percent believe that work force size will remain similar to current levels and another 35 percent expect to see some growth over the next year – this signals that those polled have a positive outlook on where the economy is headed.
