BizBen CEO and founder Peter Siegel notes that the small increase could have occurred because there were fewer days in February than January. But he's positive about what's ahead. "Orange County was one of the counties with a nice gain in January (20 percent over the January before) and we expect to see the county continue to put up better numbers, comparing like months, than it did during the past couple of years," he says. Anaheim led the region with 10 business sales over the month – and that number is up from three in February 2009, according to the Web site, which tracks the sale of California firms. Santa Ana had nine sales, followed by Orange, Costa Mesa and Huntington Beach with seven completed transactions. Statewide, 1,002 firms changed hands over the month, which is up from 959 in February 2009. It's a 4.5 percent increase, though the number is down from 1,074 in January. "The fact that small business buyers and sellers are finding ways to complete their deals, despite the challenges, is a positive sign that confidence and determination are taking hold in the business community," finishes Siegel. "It’s an indicator that we’ll experience a turnaround in other segments of the economy.” Related headlines O.C. automakers see sales gain last month Hundreds of jobseekers set to descend on OC Works!
