After countless roadside tire changes, the Automobile Club of Southern California will receive Cal State Fullerton's Orange County Titan Award during the institution's Front & Center 2010 fundraising event on Saturday.

Now 110 years old and more than 6 million members strong, the Auto Club, which is the largest affiliate of the American Automobile Association, started by offering travel service and social events for its members.

As the automobile gained popularity and Americans began touring the region, the Auto Club developed tour books and maps, and produced safety and directional signs. It also began offering home and car insurance platforms.

Among the organization's other local efforts: The Auto Club recently partnered with the County of Orange Health Care Agency's alcohol and drug education and prevention team. The two launched the O.C. DUI Prevention Task Force.

The Auto Club is also a longtime supporter of the Mihaylo College of Business and Economics' Center for Insurance Studies. Auto Club CEO Thomas McKernan serves on the center's board of directors. He will accept the award on behalf of the organization.

Previous Orange County Titan Award recipients include SchoolsFirst Federal Credit Union, the Anaheim Angels, First American Corp. and the Orangewood Children’s Foundation.

Front & Center 2010 raises funds for the university's President's Scholars Program, which is awarded to local incoming freshman. The event kicks off at 8 p.m. at Honda Center in Anaheim.
