Cox Cares names CHOC Children's Nonprofit of the Year
The medical institution also receives a $10,000 grant.

CHOC Children's has been named the Cox Cares Nonprofit of the Year and has garnered a $10,000 award, thanks to thousands of local residents who voted online as part of the communications firm's annual grant program.
In total, Cox Cares gave $55,000 to CHOC and nine other finalist nonprofits.
The hospital will use the funds to provide financial assistance to more than 3,000 families in need of pediatric care this year, said Tanya Lieber, vice president of the CHOC Children's Foundation.
"We are happy to support CHOC, as well as all the other deserving finalists," added Gail Bongcaras, community relations manager of Cox’s Orange Coast system. "But what makes it even more meaningful is the participation of the community in deciding how to allocate the funds."
Since 2000, Cox Cares has donated nearly $700,000 to more than 95 local nonprofit organizations.
"As a local company, it is important to us to reflect the priorities of the communities we serve," finished Bongcaras.

• Ocean Institute
