Planned Parenthood opened its Orange County doors in 1965, and yes, there was some controversy. Orange County was far more conservative than it is now, and nobody liked the volatile word “abortion.”
But Planned Parenthood’s business is only about 7 percent abortion. The vast majority is helping people to plan for their future families or deal with sex-related issues.
If it surprises you that it made the top 10 Most Trustworthy Brands, Executive Director Jon Dunn says it’s because such a wide range of people in Orange County – one in four – use its services, despite any political preference.
“Young women come in here with serious problems,” Dunn says. “They fear they’re pregnant, or their boyfriend has been pressuring them to begin a sexual relationship, or they fear having an STD. They come to us because they know they can trust us to care – and to keep their information confidential.”
