![]() Courtesy of Derail the Sale The group, Derail the Sale, has led the charge in recent weeks to stop the possible sale of the fairgrounds, which was put up for auction by the state in October as a way to help curb the budget deficit. The move comes on the heels of Monday's hearing at Costa Mesa City Hall, where some 300 individuals showed up to find out more information from state Assemblymen Solorio and Tran and to voice their opinions on the matter. Those in attendance were generally opposed to the sale and any change of use, according to Costa Mesa City Manager Allan Roeder. He says many of them questioned why the fairgrounds had been "singled out" for sale among California's properties; the Fair Board's involvement in the sale; and any negative effects that could stem from the sale on vendors, state employees and the local community.
