John Wayne Airport is featuring a group of abstract paintings by local Newport Beach-based artist, Michaell Magrutsche. The feature is part of John Wayne Airport’s Community Focus Space Program.
Magrutsche, who was born in Vienna, Austria, was the nephew of well known Austrian painter Adolf Frohner, and grew up in a home filled with Modern Art.
Magrutsche fell in love with Orange County when he moved to Southern California 30 years ago, mistaking Orange County for Los Angeles.
Magrutsche hosts monthly exhibitions from his home-studio in Newport Beach, complete with guest painters, musicians and writers. While explaining his art Magrutsche said, “I am drawn to colorful Minimal Abstract art and the Liminal (space in between abstract and representational). Liminal paintings engage the viewer by interpreting and filling in the blanks with one's own imagination".
His paintings will be on display through Dec. 19, 2011. They can be found at departures near the security screening areas, and at arrivals near baggage carousels one and four.
