Passenger traffic at John Wayne Airport slid 3 percent in April over the same time last year. A total of 722,815 individuals passed through the gates last month, down from 745,302 in April 2010.
The airport, which annually serves 9 million passengers, also reported declines in commuter and commercial aircraft operations. The former fell 12.5 percent to 287, down from 328 at the same time last year. Commercial operations dropped 2.9 percent to 6,639. That compares to 6,835 in April 2010.
General aviation activity – which made up 59.3 percent of total aircraft operations – edged up 0.3 percent to 10,077. In April 2010, that figure stood at 10,047.
In total, there were 17,007 takeoffs and landings last month, down 1.2 percent from 17,212 in April 2010.
