Lake Forest-based Kwikset nets top honor

Lake Forest-based Kwikset has garnered a Best Buy rating from Consumers Digest for the company’s SmartKey residential deadbolt, based on performance and features.

SmartKey deadbolts and locks employ a side-locking bar technology that allows the device to be quickly re-keyed. The stainless steel bar also replaces the traditional pin and tumbler design that is more vulnerable to break-ins.

“SmartKey technology is one of the most successful and revolutionary innovations in our company’s history," says company Vice President of Marketing Brent Flaharty. "We attribute the tremendous and rapid adoption by homeowners to the fact that we’ve made improved home security affordable and thereby accessible to all.”

The SmartKey is available at home improvement stores nationwide and retails for $30. It has been accredited by the American National Standards Institute and has passed a number of lock-picking tests.

“The SmartKey is one of the only two deadbolt locks that are at this price and bump-proof but you can easily re-key this model," according to Consumers Digest editors. "That’s a great luxury because it saves you the trouble of calling a locksmith to your door.”
