Two local agencies took home honors at the recent California Tourism Marketing Excellence Awards. The Laguna Beach Visitors & Conference Bureau garnered recognition in the Best Sustainable Tourism Messages in Advertising category. And, the Anaheim/Orange County Visitor & Convention Bureau won in the Best Social Media sector.
The awards ceremony was held during the 28th annual California Conference on Tourism in San Francisco, and recognizes agencies and destinations statewide for their tourism advertising, marketing and public relations efforts.
The Laguna Beach Visitors & Conference Bureau's "Tidepool Scene" DVD earned the agency its accolade. The seven-minute film highlights the values of protecting tidepools in the region.
“Our partnership with the Laguna Ocean Foundation and Barnstormer Productions made this educational DVD possible, and demonstrated the importance of keeping our tidepools pristine for generations to come,” said Judith Bijlani, executive director of the bureau, which also garnered second place in the Best Visitors Guide for California Destinations category.
Meanwhile, the Anaheim/Orange County Visitor & Convention Bureau received recognition for its "Bring Comic-Con International to Anaheim" social-media campaign, which highlights the top eight reasons the convention should be moved to the city, among other features.
"It was great fun using social media as a new medium in our efforts to attract new business to our destination and reveal Anaheim's many attributes in a factual and engaging way," said Charles Ahlers, president of the bureau.
In addition, Los Angeles-based Purry Communications Group garnered honors for its "Slyders’ Water Playground Grand Opening at the Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach Resort & Spa" campaign. Hornblower Cruises & Events, which has a local presence in Newport Beach, was a runner-up in the Best Social Media category.
Winners were selected by a panel of marketing and industry execs in 10 separate categories.
"Year after year, we continue to be impressed with the campaigns and programs our statewide industry professionals generate," said Caroline Beteta, president and CEO of the California Travel and Tourism Commission, which hosted the awards. "It is this inventiveness and hard work that helps keep California top of mind as one of the leading tourism destinations in the U.S."
