![]() MOMS Orange County was among three local nonprofits to receive a combined $250,000 in grants at the Irvine Health Foundation's 25th anniversary celebration earlier this year. The funding comes at a time when the latest state budget proposal's impact on health care is raising concerns; the plan seeks to funnel Prop 10 funds to the state, which could harm programs that support school and public health nurses, children's dental services and prenatal care for low-income women. (For more on that story, click here.) Founded in 1992, MOMS Orange County provides access to prenatal care, screenings and education to more than 3,500 low-income families per year. The largest recipient at the Irvine Health Foundation event was Costa Mesa-based Share Our Selves. The organization received $150,000 for providing available, accessible and quality health-related services to Orange County residents in need. The remaining $50,000 was awarded to Garden Grove-based Healthy Smiles for Kids of Orange County for its dedication to oral health education, advocacy and prevention. The Laguna Niguel-based Health Funders Partnership of Orange County also was honored with the Irvine Health Foundation's Anniversary Award for its efforts to advance the availability of of local health care.
