It’s been a tough year for just about everyone, so celebrate the new decade with a little decadence.

  • Do you really want to watch the ball drop at home for the third New Year's Eve in a row? Say goodbye to the – have we figured out what we’re calling this decade yet? The “0s”? The naughts? And ring in the double-digits with fun, elegance and an evening on the town. 2009 has been about belt-tightening, so say sayonara to the season of sacrifice with a little bit of indulgence, if only for an evening.

    Balboa Bay Club & Resort
Take a step back in time to experience the elegance of celebrating at a private nightclub – black ties, ball gowns, a five-course meal with paired wines and dancing to a live orchestra.

The New Year’s Eve Gala in the Grand Ballroom at the Balboa Bay Club and Resort in Newport Beach is the type of soiree everyone dreams of attending at least once in their lives.

Do arrive in fashion but don’t be fashionably late as the evening starts at 8 p.m. with a reception featuring tray-service hors d’oeuvres and champagne.

Interested in dining only? The New Year’s Eve dinner will be served in the First Cabin Restaurant from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Entrées include a choice of: petite filet mignon and lobster tail, or herb crusted lamb, or seared Chilean sea bass. Cost is $89; tax and gratuity is not included. After dinner, the party has just begun at Duke’s Place.

Noisemakers and party hats will be on hand to mark the moment at midnight, when the naughts are naught and 10 begins.

Start the year off with a little sustenance with a delicious brunch featuring freshly baked pastries, artisan cheeses, smoked salmon, fruit compote, breakfast specials such as: eggs Benedict, smoked bacon and sausages, cheese blintzes, french toast crème brulee, and a carving station with roast pork and prime rib.

Reservations are required for all events but Duke’s Place. 949.630.4145; balboabayclub.com
