O’Neill launches a new book to celebrate 60th anniversary

The company is releasing a biographical book that explores the accomplishments of Jack O’Neill.

O’Neill, one of the original surf, snow, and youth lifestyle brands, is celebrating its 60th anniversary with a biographical book, “Jack O’Neill: It’s Always Summer on the Inside.”  The surf brand has major headquarters in Irvine, but has evolved to dominate the market with their products, sponsor the world’s best surfers, snowboarders and wake boarders, and join the fashion world with their line of women’s clothing.

In 1952, Jack O’Neill opened the world’s first surf shop in Santa Cruz, CA. He pioneered the first wetsuit and sold supplies including surfboards, surf wax and travel bags, according to the biographical sketch. The company boasts that O’Neill’s innovations are now sold in over 47 countries and changed the surf industry forever.

“I’m just a surfer who wanted to build something that would allow me to surf longer,” said O’Neill. “By having the surf shop and inventing the wetsuit, it was my job to test out my products. I loved my job. My job was to surf.”

Drew Kampion dives into the “legendary accomplishments" of Jack O’Neill in the celebratory biography. The book was released on Oct. 1 at oneilleshop.com. The company says a portion of the book’s sales will be donated to O’Neill’s non-profit environmental program, O’Neill Sea Odyssey.

 “O’Neill has a 60 year history of developing the industry’s best products,” said Pat O’Neill, son of Jack and CEO of O’Neill Wetsuits. “The brand was founded on my dad’s passion to be the ‘first in the water’ and we infuse this belief into each product we produce.”
