Newport Beach, CA – (June 5, 2008) As print publishers continue to struggle with plummeting advertising sales and recession woes, more are turning to online products to replace lost revenue.  Simply taking print content and posting it online, however, is no longer enough for savvy Web consumers who demand more. Interactivity is at the core of new Web venture and Newport Beach-based Churm Media has retooled to meet that demand.

The niche media company today announced the launch of ocmetrobusiness.com, a regional business media outlet that boasts the first web-first, weekday business newscast covering Orange County. The company, which publishes five magazine titles including OC METRO BUSINESS magazine, now produces “The OC METRO Minute” newscast from its Newport Beach-based newsroom and studio.

In addition to its signature newscast, ocmetrobusiness.com incorporates an innovative news-delivery model as it merges content compiled by its seasoned staff of reporters with news generated directly from Orange County’s business community. “Companies can upload their own press announcements and immediately see their news and photos posted online,” says President and Publisher Steve Churm. “It’s no longer about pushing out content,” Churm says. “The new model is a collaborative information exchange between journalists and the reader. More than just reporting a story, today we are engaging in a dialogue about issues of importance to business leaders.”

Concurrent with the launch of ocmetrobusiness.com, Churm Media is also debuting its new social network as a much-anticipated feature of the site. The business social network is designed to connect OC-based businesses and business people.  According to Kimberly Porrazzo, Churm Media’s chief content officer, business owners and marketing executives can create a company profile in less than five minutes and immediately begin to network with others on the site. “Users can promote their products and services, upload photos and videos, and blog right from their own page,” Porrazzo says.

Churm Media is a leading regional, full-service media company based in Newport Beach, California. The privately held company publishes five niche consumer magazines and nine interactive websites serving readers and advertisers in five Southern California counties — Orange, Los Angeles, San Diego, Riverside and San Bernardino. The company prints and distributes more than 400,000 magazines per month with a total audience — print, online and events — of more than 1.5 million readers/viewers per month.
