Anaheim-based SA Recycling has unveiled a new recycling center in Santa Ana, which offers cash in exchange for old metal items.

The recycling hub, which was coined an “Extreme Recycling Center,” is one of 47 new locations for SA Recycling. The company encourages locals to bring in metal scraps from old lamps, refrigerators, faulty tools or automobiles for an on the spot cash payment.

“We are taking recycling to a new level by accepting not only aluminum cans, which most people associate with the recycling movement, but to also include all metal items that might be lying around their houses,” said Cristi Rossi, executive vice president of operations at SA Recycling.

After the center receives the metal, the items are sent to a plant where they are chopped and sorted into pure metals, ready to be reused in new appliances and cars.

To help those unable to transport their scraps to the center themselves, SA Recycling recently launched a new service, 1-800-GOT-SCRAP, which will pick up the items for a fee.

“We encourage those living in or around Santa Ana to take a look around the house as they may be sitting on a treasure trove,” said Rossi.
