![]() The $31 million facility will allow the school to expand its science and engineering program, incorporating courses in microbiology, organic chemistry and engineering, in addition to its current lineup of astronomy, biology, chemistry and geology classes, among others. The sustainable center boasts 12 labs, six lecture halls, a more than 180-seat auditorium and faculty offices. The facility was built with energy- and water-efficient systems, and solar-shading technology, as well as other environmentally friendly features. The dedication will begin at 3 p.m. at 8045 E. Chapman Ave. Santiago Canyon College, which is a part of the Rancho Santiago Community College District, is among the newest of its kind in the state. The institution, which was founded in 2000, serves roughly 10,000 students at the main campus, as well as an additional 8,000 at its Orange Education Center.
