The Aliso Viejo-based Surf Industry Manufacturers Association – or SIMA – is bringing its annual Image Awards to the House of Blues Anaheim in February. The decision comes as a result of the nonprofit trade association's plan to move the awards stateside, as well as the recent cancellation of the Action Sports Retail trade show – run by San Juan Capistrano-based Nielsen Expositions – held in San Diego.
The Image Awards ceremony recognizes the most influential companies in the industry and honors the achievements of products, brands and retailers across 15 categories. The program has been held for the past seven years in Cabo San Lucas, but organizers had planned to move it to San Diego in 2011 in an effort to make the awards more accessible to SIMA's members.
“The original goal of bringing the Image Awards stateside was to afford more SIMA members the opportunity to be a part of this inspiring event,” said Doug Palladini, president of SIMA and vice president of marketing for Vans. “Now, moving the ceremony to Orange County, in the industry's epicenter, brings us an even better chance to achieve that goal.”
