Irvine-based Specific Media has acquired Amsterdam-based AdCombination. The move expands the interactive media firm's presence into the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg, and is part of the company's recent European growth efforts.

AdCombination, an advertising display network, will be integrated into Specific Media's brand. The acquisition makes Specific Media the largest independent digital media platform in Europe, according to the company.

"Specific Media continues to strategically build out its media platform on a global scale," said Tim Vanderhook, co-founder and CEO of the local firm.

Since 2009, Specific Media also has opened offices in Norway, Denmark and Sweden.

"Our move into the Benelux (which includes the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg) will provide tremendous opportunities for advertisers in the region while bolstering our industry-leading capabilities in Europe," he said.

Specific Media helps advertisers, marketers and agencies connect with online consumers through a number of different formats, including video, display and creative original programming.

“By bringing together Specific Media’s next-generation media platform with AdCombination’s executive leadership and presence in the market, we are able to provide our customers worldwide the advantages of a global media platform, presenting a value proposition that is simply unmatched in the industry,” added Vanderhook.

Tim Van Der Bilt, AdCombination's managing director, will lead the merged operations as regional director.

"AdCombination has built a strong customer base in the Benelux," he said, "and I am extremely pleased that we are becoming part of Specific Media to continue our growth as part of a leading, global brand."
