Tustin-based Sunwest Bank is now offering home mortgage loans – and one company exec believes now is the best time to begin the service.

The community bank, which operates branches throughout Orange County, has put in place automated services for various portions of the lending process, enabling the financial institution and its clients to achieve rapid approval.

“If a bank is prepared to provide mortgage lending in a disciplined manner, now is the time to do it because the lenders who were merely opportunistic and didn’t rely on sensible lending standards are predominantly gone,” said Sunwest CEO Glenn Gray.

He said that mortgage lending is an added boost for the bank's existing clients, and the service is another way to expand its customer base.

“Sunwest Bank’s community bank approach, through which we personally get to know our clients, is often eye-opening to people who have dealt with the big banks in the past,” said Gray. “As we provide a mortgage loan we get to know our clients and establish a strong relationship with them, making it more likely they will feel comfortable depositing money in our bank and consider using Sunwest Bank to meet their business banking needs.”
