![]() The sixth annual venture-capital conference, which is hosted by Aliso Viejo-based OCTANe, will highlight new initiatives and groundbreaking technologies from university, venture-backed startups and other companies in Orange County. The event's highlight will be OCTANe's second annual Innovation Report, which will discuss the state of entrepreneurship and groundbreaking technologies in the county. “This is Orange County’s marquee event to get the inside view on cutting-edge technologies, hot startups, venture investments and industry trends,” said Matthew Jenusaitis, president and CEO of OCTANe. OCTANe works to fuel the development of O.C.'s biomedical and tech industries by bringing together key players in the fields, as well as startups, entrepreneurs and venture capitalists. This event is among a number of its efforts to mark the region as a leader in innovation. “With participation from some of the region’s most established companies, active investors and leading-edge startups, the conference will spotlight O.C. innovation at its best,” said Jenusaitis. The event's keynote speaker will be Neel Kashkari, managing director at Newport Beach-based PIMCO. Panel discussions will talk about industries and initiatives such as stem cells, digital advertising, high-speed data communications, and clean water and power. Other features include a VC Speed Dating program where entrepreneurs will be able to speak with more than 20 venture capitalists during three-minute intervals; a look at the local venture market; and 14 fledgling firms will present their investments to venture capitalists and investors. The event begins at 7 a.m. at the Hyatt Regency Irvine. For more information, visit vcintheoc2010.com.
