Waste Management of Orange County, a subsidiary of Houston, TX-based Waste Management Inc., has opened a new natural gas fueling station in Santa Ana.

Operated by PetroCard, the new Clean N’ Green Fuel station will offer compressed natural gas (CNG) to school districts, taxis, and transit agencies, as well as to private CNG-equipped auto owners.

Compressed natural gas is significantly cheaper than gasoline and diesel. According to Waste Management, the fuel is only a third of the cost of normal fuel. The company boasts that the switch to CNG also reduces nitrogen oxide emissions by up to 50 percent and greenhouse gas emissions by over 21 percent. In addition to cost savings and carbon reduction, CNG-equipped trucks are 50 percent quieter.

“Natural gas powered vehicles run cleaner and quieter, improving air quality and reducing noise pollution,” said Jason Rose, general manager and vice president of Waste Management of Orange County. “Santa Ana can look forward to cleaner air and neighborhoods as we get more CNG vehicles on the road.”
